Alan Chilestone comments:
Arrival in Edinburgh was 2 to 3 hours late. Failure at Doncaster stood for over 1 hour, failure at Ferryhill approx ¾hour, ½hour to deposit locos in Tyne Yard added to time lost whilst 47 hauling train. It had been arranged for 90028 to take over at Newcastle but subsequent failure of 47 it was sent to rescue. Driver obviously did not realise Newcastle was a scheduled stop anyway, saw a green light and went straight through! A later return departure from Edinburgh was hastily arranged.
