Steam loco 6233
failed at Carlisle with a leaking firebox. 31602+31452, which had worked the
Green Express Llandudno Jct-Sellafield as far as Carnforth, were sent north to
Carlisle to pilot the PMR train back to Carnforth. Here the return legs of both
tours were recessed side-by-side in the bi-directional goods loops south of the
station. 31602+31452 swapped trains, replacing 8F 48151 and taking up their
booked turn back to Llandudno Jct. Meanwhile, 31128 took over as pilot for a
partially-resurrected 6233 onwards to Crewe, where the scheduled loco change to
47703 took place.
