Mike Holt comments: A tour run to commemorate the 100 years of electric train operation on Tyneside which began on 29th March 1904. Organised and run by the North East Branch chairman David Tyreman and his committee of the RCTS. A very interesting tour with full commentary and details of operation given by the driver, whose very friendly character together with the two lady ushers (who in real life are ticket inspectors) made the day complete. All lines covered as booked, plus the refuge siding at Manors. The service train was taken to South Hylton because of capacity restrictions on the line and allowed the crew to have a break. Late running was caused by the chattyness of the driver when changing ends who was more than willing to impart his knowledge to anyone who asked in passing through the train.
