Neil Edwards comments: At Swindon, a hot box was discovered on the tender. Loco & support coach were detached and ran to a siding where a new bearing was fitted, and we continued as if nothing had happened, leaving Swindon 92 minutes late. A cracking run from Gloucester Yard to Stourbridge Junction saw us complete the 49.27 miles in 60 minutes, knocking 15 minutes off the booked allowance.
