Tour Review

The tour ran to time as far as Canterbury West. However only 80 mins were allowed for servicing the engine & there were problems getting the engine from the down side to the up side at Canterbury West & back. When I got back to the station after a meal I learned that the departure had been put back by an hour. Even then the departure was delayed as Network Rail would not let it move until other trains had passed. On the train we were told optimistically that most of the time could be made up & only a 20 min late arrival was expected at Bournemouth. A fellow traveller told me later that they got there about 0130!

On the return a signal check at Deal prevented a speedy run up Martin Mill bank. After Paddock it was raining & this combined with poor coal put a dampener on any chance of recovering much of the lost time. It was hoped to make up some time by doing the loco change at Kensington O instead of in the Battersea Loop. Once again I got home in the early hours instead of the same day.
