When this tour was first advertised it was to use 34067 'Tangmere' & 30777 'Sir Lamiel'. 34067 was undergoing overhaul so 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' was substituted. This suffered a cracked firebox in May so 60019 'Bittern' was to be used. This failed a few days before the tour so the tour ran as shown. On the day we left a little late for reasons unknown. The engine wasn't steaming well so we lost a bit of time. An additional stop was made at Overton (10.10-16) for water. We got to Salisbury late but left on time. Things then seemed to be going OK. 47760 took us from Yeovil Junction to Yeovil Pen Mill which we left early. It was hoped that we would also get to Weymouth early. As Waterloo - Weymouth trains have over an hour's layover at Weymouth both long platforms were occupied so we had to wait until the 14.48 had left. Even so, we were a few mins early. Weymouth was left late & we were held at Dorchester South for the 14.35 from Waterloo to come down. Because of this the 17.55 Poole - Waterloo had gone on ahead. We followed it. The train calls at all stations from Bournemouth to Totton so it was a slow journey. We eventually got to Salisbury 39mins late. Some slick work by the signalmen here saw the turning of the train on the Laverstock triangle quickly completed & despite also having to take water we got away just 20 min late. It was evident that the engine was still not steaming well. The water stop at Brookwood was extended to allow the fire to be sorted out. After Woking we ran satisfactorily until we were stopped outside Clapham Junction which was reached over 40mins late.
