(2) John Clifford comments: After a slightly late start we were held outside Clapham Junction for 9 minutes. This meant that we followed the 08.52 Waterloo to Weybridge via Brentford (all stations) instead of passing it before Barnes and preceding it. Consequently we left Staines over 20 minutes late. Some helpful operating on the main line (cutting down on the Winchfield water stop, not stopping at Basingstoke and running fast line instead of slow line at both Shawford Jn and St Denys) saw us pass Northam Jn on time. The support coach was left in the train at Weymouth and did not go with the engine to Yeovil Junction.
