(3) John Clifford comments: This was the second of two tours on consecutive dates. Buffer Puffer 14.0 was largely an overnight one covering various branches in East Anglia finishing at London Euston in time for this one. The routing of this one was different from that originally advertised due to engineering work between Didcot and Oxford and in the Dartford area. The advertised route between High Wycombe and Reading was to be: High Wycombe - Bicester Chord - Oxford - Reading. After Strood the route was advertised to be: Strood - Dartford - Lee Spur - Bromley North (reverse) - Lewisham - Clapham Junction - Strawberry Hill - Wimbledon - Streatham - Clapham Junction – London Victoria (reverse) - Crystal Palace - Caterham Branch (reverse) - Tulse Hill - Brixton - Clapham Junction - Eastleigh. Just how Streatham - Clapham Junction - London Victoria would have been achieved without a reversal somewhere is unclear. On the day the tour ran fairly close to time. It was discovered that the train was too long for the platform at Caterham, so the train reversed at Purley. I was on my way home by this time.
