(6) John Clifford's comments: This was a stock movement to get the coaches back to Carnforth following “The Devonian Crompton” tour on the previous day, 8th March 2020. We set off on time for our first move of the day, going to Park Royal Sidings. This was possibly the first passenger train over the Greenford - Park Royal section since the line was shut between Old Oak Common and Park Royal in 2018. We reversed and gained the Chiltern line at South Ruislip. Slow running ensued as we were behind the 13.43 Marylebone - Stratford upon Avon. This caused the stop outside Haddenham. After a short stop at Bicester North we continued only to be stopped at Aynho Jn to let the 13.47 Southampton Central - Edinburgh go ahead. On we went covering the Goods Loop after Banbury then the Main line at Leamington Spa. At Leamington Spa North Jn we stopped and saw the 12.35 Newcastle - Reading pass us as did the 16.02 Leamington Spa - Nuneaton, the 13.00 Southampton Maritime - Trafford park Freightliner (21 minutes late) and the 14.40 Marylebone - Birmingham Snow Hill. We set off nearly 20 minutes late, reached Coventry and reversed into the engineers’ siding. Returning to Coventry there was a Cross Country train in platform 3 which, we gathered, was delayed by a fatality in the Tile Hill area. The stop in Coventry yard was cut short and it looked like we would be early through Nuneaton, but we had to wait at Chilvers Coton Jn for the 17.16 Nuneaton - Leamington Spa to leave Nuneaton. After Amington Jn we caught up the 15.46 Euston - Crewe which was running 27 minutes late. I left the tour at Stafford and got to Euston on an Edinburgh - Euston via Birmingham train. It had got to Wolverhampton, reversed back to Stafford because of the Tile Hill incident, then went via the Trent Valley line to get to Euston.
