(5) With 50007 already on it's way from Kidderminster to join up with 50008 'Thunderer' at Leicester, 50008 failed it's 'Fitness to Run'. 50007 turned around at Bescot & went back for 50049 to save the day! Many thanks to all involved.
(6) John Clifford comments: I joined at Bedford. We were running roughly to time. There was a stop at Longhedge Jn to allow the 08.34 Dalston Junction - Clapham Junction & the 09.15 Clapham Junction - Dalston Junction to pass. At Shortlands Jn we were checked to allow the 07.53 to pass. Then at Petts Wood Jn we found ourselves behind the 09.04 Charing Cross - Sevenoaks stopper. Outside Ashford we waited for the 09.23 Ramsgate - Charing Cross to leave the station before we could proceed. It had not been possible to water the buffet car, so there was an extended stop at Dover Priory to allow this to be done. Near Gillingham we caught up the 16.23 Rainham - Luton which we followed to Dartford. On the Dartford Loop we caught up the 16.48 Gravesend - Charing Cross. The running round of 50007 in Hither Green Sidings took a few minutes longer that allowed and we continued some minutes late. Arrival at Bedford was just 5 minutes late.
