(2) John Clifford's comments: The coaches for this tour had to be turned after the late afternoon working. Since that one had been late, the E.C.S. was also late, not arriving until 19.49. We set off 30 minutes late. There was an unchecked run until Hounslow, where we arrived 17½ minutes late. The 19.53 Windsor & Eton Riverside to London Waterloo had failed at Whitton. Since we were booked to go round the spur to Whitton Jn once again, we stood at Hounslow for the Windsor train to clear the section from Whitton platform. We were booked to stop at St Margarets and while there the 19.42 Reading to London Waterloo passed us. We continued on. There was a 5 minute stop at Willesden West London Jn for reasons that I did not discover. The stop at Acton Wells Jn was to let the 21.32 Richmond to Stratford to pass. The train continued onto the Hounslow loop and over the spur to Whitton Jn (for the third time that day!). Some slow running ensued in the Twickenham and Richmond areas, again for reasons that I did not discover. Clapham Junction was left almost half an hour late, but without any further checks we got back to Victoria just 11½ minutes late. I caught my expected train home again from Kings Cross.
