Notes :
(1) At Longhedge Jn the train was in collision with a
platelayers trolley and an unsecured 60' length of 'six foot' rail which was in
process of being 'turned' and had not been fully replaced or
secured. This resulted in the loco and first three carriages derailing, although
the loco and first coach subsequently re-railed themselves before the train came
to a stand. It is reported that there were no injuries amongst the 410
passengers on the train, or any railway staff,. A relief train arrived on site
onto which the passengers were transferred. It departed at
13.03 (but the report does not say if this was to Margate, or straight back to
Parson Street.
