Notes :
(1) Stock included Gresley Buffet W9135E.
(2) The above details are for returning specials after a Wales v. Scotland rugby international and reflect the trains as they departed Edinburgh. Locos listed may not have worked throughout their journeys back to Wales. Details for the inward workings are required (presumably setting off on 5th February).
(3) Regarding routing of the trains Bill Jamieson comments: as far as I am aware all trains (from Wales) travelled via Newport - Hereford - Worcester* - Birmingham* - Crewe - Carlisle and Carstairs (* other contributors may elucidate whether this or the Shrewsbury line to Crewe was used). The return trains left either on the evening of the 6th by the same route or on the morning of the 7th, in which case the route taken was the East Coast (presumably to York then via Birmingham) due to closure of the Beattock line for pre-electrification works.
