Notes :
(1) Sholto Thomas comments: I think the DMU went ECS to Dundee whilst we did the
Lochty bit. John Cameron drove the DMU most of the way (with BR driver/pilot) in
his steam-era overalls. We also thought we were the last train on the Kincardine
- Longannet line, which was then unused as the Longannet MGR trains used the
Forth Bridge at that time. These were the dark days for steam on BR and BR in
general. Subsequently matters were reversed but the Kincardine - Longannet line
had to be de-vegetated and pretty-well rebuilt for the MGRs starting from
Hunterston when Midlothian coal dried up.
(2) Break taken during which passengers traveled by Alexander (Fife) Albion
Lowlander bus to Lochty for a trip behind A4 steam locomotive 60009 'Union of
South Africa'
(3) Route confirmation required - above is from Sholto Thomas's memory but is
believed correct.
