(1) John Pownall comments: I travelled on this excursion from Lime
Street to Aberystwyth. It was hauled throughout by the same Class 40. I also
travelled on The Vale of Rheidol to Devils Bridge during the layover. I’m pretty
sure that the VoR trip optional and was included in the ticket price but I’m not
100% (It was a long time ago) The train travelled via Runcorn, Crewe and
Shrewsbury before traversing the Cambrian line. Two of the three VoR locos were
in steam. Our train was hauled by 9 'Prince of Wales' in BR blue with the double
arrow symbol; 8 'Llewelyn' was also working trains while 7 was in the shed
