Notes :
(1) Mark Alden comments: Train was booked a single class 37 via
the Central Wales line but
as 6885
(ex-works) tried to take 11 coaches over the Central Wales line it failed at Sugar
Loaf summit tunnel (Llanbister Road according to Steve Haynes?) causing a 2¾ hour delay throwing services into chaos.
Paddington was eventually reached at 02.15!!! Alan Osborn adds: I didn't
travel on this trip but did a Central Wales trip the following week and the
previous weeks trip was much talked about. I am pretty sure the operator was the
LNER Society - mention was made of the poor 19.00 Shrewsbury to Swansea service which was held at
Craven Arms until about 22.00 with an arrival in Swansea in the early hours.
Steve Haynes saw the train in the Shrewsbury area with 1853 in charge.
