Alan Castle comments regarding the photo above: with a crew change at this point, the driver taking over is former 10D Lostock Hall driver, Freddie Wells (right). Upon closure of Lostock Hall MPD, like many other former steam men, Freddie transferred to Preston signing-on point and here he is seen in his diesel driving days. He is accompanied by his second-man, former Preston fireman, Kevin Mitchell, and on the left is former Skew Bridge (Preston) signalman, Pete Kellett, who, with the demise of mechanical signalling in the Preston district, had, by this time, become a passenger guard.
