Class 74 Farewell

Route : 1Z74 throughout

Notes:
(1) Was booked via East Putney but diverted because the guard had been left behind at Waterloo (he travelled on the 08:26 Hampton Court service).
(2) Booked via Earlsfield but diversion made to compensate for not going that way in the morning.
(3) John Clifford comments : This tour did not go according to plan. After the incident with the guard causing us to miss out the diversion via East Putney, the loco had problems at Romsey when running on diesel (reported as 74003 'ran hot and overheated, taking several attempts to re-start'). We were at Romsey for over an hour. Hence we got a replacement loco for the return journey. This time we did go via East Putney to compensate for missing it out in the morning.
(4) A source seen by the Webmaster quoted sets 414 & 424 however this is now known to be an error as photographic evidence (several photos) since seen by the Webmaster clearly shows set 412 was used on the tour.
(5) Trevor Lee comments: After having spent an hour at Romsey, it seemed a little odd that we should then spend a further 15 minutes having a (rushed) photo-stop at the then closed Chandler's Ford railway station, that line being freight only in normal usage at that point in time. One other point of note was that we were traveling in the back coach on the way back and someone had opened the cab of the TC and we were watching the performance going along the racetrack in the Farnborough, Woking area. The speedo crept higher and higher, but stubbornly refused to get past 99MPH - it was certainly flying along!
