Brian Basterfield comments: It was a nice touch to have "Bishop Eric Treacy" on the first and last sections of this railtour. And it was appropriate that two National Railway Museum locomotives should work the steam section. They made a fine pairing. I believe that the tour was dedicated the former head of the Museum, John Scholes, who had recently died. Some unrealistic timings on the Hope Valley route meant we lost time, and the Sheffield to York line hardly offers the scope for any recovery. And I hadn't previously had a class 40 over the Standedge route, so that was a bonus. I joined and left the train at Lichfield, and the conclusion of a very pleasant day ended with an arrival 2 minutes early.
