Notes :
(1) Route confirmation required - a reversal/loco change (electric to
diesel) may have taken place at Carstairs both ways as this was common operating practice
at the time. The letter sent out to passengers carried the following comments:
"We are pleased to advise that due to the very heavy demand for seats on
our group day excursion to Edinburgh, our party will be travelling on an extra
service train to Edinburgh and NOT the train as mentioned on our original
leaflet. British Rail advised us that due to the large number of groups
travelling from the Fylde area (including our own) they are now providing a
through direct train to Edinburgh, thus avoiding the change of trains at
Preston". A tour of Haymarket MPD was an on-the-day option.
