Notes :
(1) Peter James comments: The train ran to time as far as Crianlarich, where
deteriorating weather conditions started to cause problems. We crossed the late
running 14.15 from Fort William at Rannoch instead of Crianlarich and eventually
reached Fort William at 19.10 some 55mins late. Meanwhile the 14.15 train stuck
in a drift at the County March and had to be evacuated by road causing the line
to be blocked. Later a snow plough train derailed near Gortan, so the booked
return south on the 22nd was impossible however the planned run to Mallaig and
back that morning took place with both 37s and 6 of the 12 coaches off the
special. After an extra night in Fort William passengers were bussed to Oban on
the Monday morning (23rd Jan) where an extra train was laid on for them as far
as Glasgow. This left at 14.15and reached Glasgow Central at 21.05 and connected
with a strengthened "Nightrider" service via the G&SW route (the Beattock route
was closed by snow) to reach Euston at 11.30 on Tues 24th Jan.
