B.R.
(Day Excursion)

Locos Used 37058, 47352 & 47527

Route :

Loco Route
47527 Shrewsbury - Sheffield (1)
47352 Sheffield - Middlesbrough (2) - Battersby (3)
47352 Battersby - Grosmont - Whitby
47352 Whitby - Battersby
37058 Battersby - Sheffield
47527 Sheffield - Shrewsbury

Notes :
(1) Tim Hall comments: 47527 was removed at Sheffeld and replaced by 47352 so that in the words of a BR employee "we could get some heat"! (for the case the significance isn't understood - 47352 was a no-heat fitted class 47).
(2) The train was booked to stop at
Middlesbrough but didn't (in error) and a DMU was sent to Battersby to collect passengers for there.
(3) The train was one coach longer than it should have been (11 coaches?) and the Battersby reverse took ages, as there was literally only a few inches to spare (hence 37058's appearance on the return). Some track gangers working at Battersby fiddled with something to ease the locos passage! It was tight!
(4) Route confirmation required. To complete the farce element, a passenger missed the return working from Whitby, and the train was held at Grosmont until his taxi arrived!
