Miller (committee member of the MCRUA) comments: Over the years we had become
quite apprehensive about how our tours might be disrupted by the powers that
be. On this occasion, engineering work was arranged at short notice at
Altrincham in connection with Metrolink construction, and our train could not
serve stations on the Mid Cheshire line (which was its raison d'être).
Fortunately, BR arranged a DMU from Altrincham to connect with the tour at
Crewe, and things went as planned after that.
