Notes :
(1) Route & loco confirmation required. Details have been taken from an advert
in the April 1996 Railway Magazine and a slide purchased by Nigel Wassell, who
comments: Briefly, the tour was advertised (e.g. in The Railway Magazine for
April 1996) as starting from Paddington, presumably diesel-hauled. The steam leg
was to begin at Didcot and run to Hereford and Crewe. Advertised motive power
was 70000 Britannia; however, in the event that loco was not available and a
photo in the RM for July 1996 shows the train passing Sandwell Country Park
behind 60009 'Union of South Africa'. That is the limit of my knowledge,
however, it might also be of interest to note that, in the list of forthcoming
Steam Tours in the March 1996 RM, 70000 was down to work for Hertfordshire
Railtours between Crewe, Blackburn and Carlisle, but that tour would appear to
have been cancelled because it does not appear in the April listing.
