The Long Thin Drag seems to be missing from the 1986 page. It was run 12th April - see <http://www.photo-rail.co.uk/lowrespages/ude201001_120486lr.htm> and <http://www.twoof.freeserve.co.uk/mtarchive.htm> for photos. Traction was Hastings DEMUs 1001/1011/1032 although one of these had it's traillers removed so ran as 2-L (or 2-S). I think it was run by HRT (although it may have been SEG).

The tour was a joint SEG/HRT effort
And what a superb tour it was, The units worked up from Hastings with passengers allowed on the empties to Hastings where the tour started proper. The additional power cars of 1001 were added for seating capacity and power. The empties from Victoria to Hastings in the evening had 3 power cars at the front and the racket was superb !

Mark or cloggydog,
Do you remember any other part of the route or destination as only the first link above works, which shows the unit on S&C, but the other link for photoS (plural) appears to be dead.

Hi Alan
Where do I start as regards this tour !

Well The Empties were open to passengers from Hastings to Victoria Via Tonbridge and Bromley South. Train Left Vic about 7am running via Stewarts Lane, Clapham Junction Windsor Side(Rev),Mitre Bridge, WCML to Nuneaton(rev). Then Leicester, Toton, Sheffield, Rotheram, Cudworth, Normanton to Leeds. There we had about a 90mins break while the units went to Neville Hill for Fuel. I guess we then departed about 13.00 for Carlisle via Skipton and the S&C.

On arrival at Carlisle there was about 30 mins for shots (could have beem less) before what was essentially a straight run up the WCML to Mitre Bridge. Obviously with 75mph max speed there was lots of slow line running etc, but nothing more than that. Again after Mitre Bridge we travelled via Clapam Junction(rev) and thence Victoria and then as outward to Hastings.

I think the units were 1012/1032 plus Power Car's from 1001. One thing I do rememer was that as the Power Cars do not have toilets the passengers in those vehicles had to more to the other unit for a leak! at station stops.

There hope that answer your question Alan, I have the Brochure in the loft somewhere along with the Photos but they will take some finding so dont expect anything straight away Gary ;)
