Can you help Jon Stubley identify this tour: It was a Sunday in late Spring 1972, that is as close as I can get, and was a BR Mystery Tour from Paddington. It was formed of 2 class 117 3-car units, except that one had an extra Metro-Cammell trailer added, to make 7 coaches in all. The route was Paddington-Severn Tunnel Junction (and we all thought we were heading for Barry Island) but then it went via Maindee East and North Junctions to Hereford. There was some kind of pageant being staged in a park there, but some of us went to Bulmers to see KGV in a shed. They had not been told of the excursion and said if they had known about it they would have opened the place up, but they let us look around anyway. The train returned in the evening, but came back via Malvern, Worcester, Evesham, and Oxford to Reading and Paddington. |
