Amazing what you find in old boxes (storage not signal that is)- a copy of the letter that was sent with the tickets giving the timings for these trains for both the saturday and the Sunday 19/20 September.

This gives the name for the shuttles as The Ludgershall Ltd and the reason for their running as the 150th Year since the Railway opened to Basingstoke.

On the 19th Timings were
Train A Salisbury 10:44, Andover 11:14 to 11:24, Ludgershall 11:44 to 12:05, Andover 12:25 to 12:35, Salisbury 13:10

Train B Salisbury 13:53, Andover 14:23 to 14:31, Ludgershall 14:51 to 15:15, Andover 15:35 to 15:45, Salisbury 16:12

Train C Salisbury 16:44, Andover 17:14 to 17:24, Ludgershall 17:44 to 18:05, Andover 18:25 to 18:35, Salisbury 19:02

On the 20th Timings were
Train A Salisbury 10:40, Andover 11:10 to 11:20, Ludgershall 11:40 to 12:05, Andover 12:25 to 12:35, Salisbury 13:02

Train B Salisbury 13:53, Andover 14:23 to 14:33, Ludgershall 14:53 to 15:15, Andover 15:35 to 15:49, Salisbury 16:16

Train C Salisbury 16:44, Andover 17:14 to 17:24, Ludgershall 17:44 to 18:05, Andover 18:25 to 18:35, Salisbury 19:02

The planned locos to haul the train were GWR 6998 Burton Agnes Hulk between Salisbury and Andover and the S&D 7F 53809 on the Ludgershall branch.

There was supposed to be an exhibition of interesting rail vehicles organised by the MOD at Ludgershall but I do not recall seeing this. I recall being told they packed up on the Saturday when told train B was being terminated at Andover.

I presume 6998 failed on Saturday's train A or just before it was due to depart and 53809 worked the trains once plan B had been sorted.

I was not too bothered as the 7F produced a fine thrash on the main line and I got additional mileage for free. The branch platform used to allow the 7F to run round at Andover was also required track.
