Notes :
(1) Peter Roberts comments: 34067 'Tangmere' had originally been booked for this trip but it failed on the Wednesday prior and after a frantic search, 44871 was located at the East Lancs Railway and it travelled to Barnetby on the Friday afternoon in readiness for the excursion on the Saturday. Departed Barnetby at approx 8.08 am - we received message that train had left Cleethorpes one hour late because of problems with the brakes of 44871. Fortunately this problem did not reoccur during the journey. The train was initially chilly as no diesel was attached to provide heating. I understand that this was because 44871 was towing ten coaches which was its maximum load. 44871 performed excellently and time was picked up on the way to Chester, such that we left Manchester Victoria on time and arrived in Chester ten minutes early. The return also showed some excellent running, in particular going up hill on the Hope Valley line. We arrived in Sheffield about four minutes down as we had been held before Chinley. 47786 'Roy Castle OBE' took over at Brightside UDL, which it left a few minutes late but made up time as we were on time at Doncaster but held on platform 8 to allow some catering staff off.  We arrived at Scunthorpe a couple of minutes early with some keen photographers on the platform, probably not aware that 'Tangmere' was not in charge. We then arrived at Barnetby five minutes early after an excellent day out.
