(3) John Clifford comments: When this tour was first advertised the route between Faversham and Ashford was via Canterbury East and Folkestone Central. However, because the line at Dover was shut following damage to the sea wall it ran as shown. On the day, after visiting Sheerness-on-Sea we were held at Middle Jn to let the 11.34 Victoria - Dover Priory go ahead. Then there was a stop outside Ashford International, presumably because of congestion. While standing there we saw the 13.54 Margate - St Pancras pass us 'wrong line'. Our Lewes stop was extended as the 16.57 Seaford - Brighton was running late. At Preston Park the 16.47 Victoria - Littlehampton was also late as was the 18.03 Brighton - Portsmouth Harbour so we left Hove ahead of it. Southern were not having a good day! On the final leg there was a slow climb through Winchester with 20107 making heavy weather of the ascent. Consequently arrival at Waterloo was 16 minutes late where I left the tour.
