(1) Henry Allum comments: British Rail ran this special train in conjunction with the official opening of the Rugby Testing Station. The train left Euston at 12.25 and ran up the WCML to Rugby Testing Station Yard arriving at 2.30, hauled by Pacific 46256 'Sir William A. Stanier FRS'. This loco and A4 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley' posed next to each other in the testing station yard and various CME's that had been on board the train for the ceremony stood beside. These were: Arthur Peppercorn (LNER), Oliver Bulleid (SR), Louis Armand (SNCF), Frederick Hawksworth (GWR), Edward Thompson (LNER), Robert Riddles (BR), Sir William Stanier (LMS) and Henry Ivatt (LMS). The train lest for Euston at 4.30pm
