Warwickshire Railway Society
Somerset & Dorset Joint & Eastleigh Tour

Locos Used 6967, 34097 'Holsworthy', 44777 & 92238

Route :

Loco Route
44777 Birmingham Snow Hill - Gloucester - Bath Green Park
92238 Bath Green Park - Bournemouth Central
34097 Bournemouth Central - Eastleigh Works (1)
34097 Eastleigh Works (1) - Basingstoke - Oxford
6967 Oxford - Birmingham Snow Hill

Notes :
(1) A visit to Eastleigh works was made, presumably from the photo below there was a reversal before or after the visit.

Brian Basterfield adds : 92238, which worked from Bath Green Park to Bournemouth Central, was in deep trouble from the time it left Bath, until it had to stop for a 5 minute "blow up" at Binegar. I believe that it blew a cylinder cover off. Interestingly a photo of a steam enshrouded 92238 was used as a cover photo for the Peter Handford LP "Trains in trouble". By far the best running of the day took place at the start and end of the day: 44777, 78mph through Cheltenham Racecourse, and 61 mph at Wickwar Tunnel, and with a grubby 6967 Willesley Hall, from Oxford back to Birmingham, 41 mph up Hatton bank.
