This nine coach train was comprised of the 'Venice Simplon-Orient
Pullman' stock, a total weight of just over 340 tons net. The run over the
non-electrified section beyond Eastleigh revealed that only 73142 was operating
on diesel power. By the time the electrified section was regained at Basingstoke
the tour was almost an hour late, although twenty minutes would be recovered by
journey's end. .
