Notes :
(1) Paul Harrison comments: I understood this to be the first electrically-hauled public passenger train north of Peterborough. A change of locomotives took place at at Doncaster. Arrival at Darlington was – as I recall – at or near booked time. Coaches then conveyed the passengers on a tour including High Force waterfall and Barnard Castle. It appears that 89001 had been stabled in a bay platform at Doncaster to await our return. While there it had been struck rather heavily by another locomotive or train causing some minor damage to buffing/draw gear but this was not discovered until difficulty arose in coupling it to the train. Minor repairs were carried out on site and the train departed after some delay.
