Notes :
(1) Route confirmation required. It was originally advertised that 7802 would
take over hauling the train at Stourbridge Junction. This was the first Past Time Rail charter.
Photographic evidence confirms that 47732 was not attached to the train during
the steam leg, so presumably it ran light engine from Worcester to Newton Abbot?
(2) Nigel Wassell comments regarding a review of the tour given in the March
1996 edition of Railway Magazine: There are a few interesting details in the
tour report. Firstly, on the steam leg 7802 is said to have run to time
'virtually throughout' and to have been before time in places. However, the
return departure from Newton Abbot was delayed by 'some two hours,' owing to
torrential rain in Devon and 'the report of a 'jolt' just past Dawlish,'
presumably on the outward journey, which caused Railtrack to temporarily close
the line for inspection. 'On returning towards Exeter after the all-clear,
spray from the waves was hitting the train as it ran along the coast.' However,
the report concludes, around 30 minutes of lateness had been regained 'by the
time the special returned to its Northampton start point'.
