Notes :
(1) 47764 was used instead of a booked class 37. Mike Harries comments: Because we arrived 30 minutes late at York, the departure time was put back by 45 minutes. I quote the announcement that was made: “Because of the late arrival, departure had been re-timed to 18:45. However, instead of a Class 37 capable of 75 mph, we now have a Class 47, capable of 95 mph, so we expect to make up time and to be back on schedule by Stafford”. The 47 did not seem very healthy, we actually stopped in the tunnel just after Huddersfield, but the driver managed to restart the engine; it is not surprising that we lost time. This was not helped by vandalism at Denton - the points at the entry to the single track section had been jammed with rubble.
