Day 8 : Saturday 29th October
Difficult to believe it was a week since we had flown out of Heathrow! The final day was just a hedge-hopping run from Washington to New York, using Amtrak. We were hoping to get mainly AEM7's as they are the older electric traction and we were not disappointed with only one newer HHP-8 thrown in.
Scooped : Amtrak 651, 945,
949, 939,
923
Dud : Amtrak 946 (had in 2004)
914 heads south through BWI station whilst we wait our next train north.
945 at Baltimore Penn.
904 at Trenton amongst a myriad of electrical knitting!
Once at Newark Penn we swapped to NJT for a run with one of their ALP46 electrics, NJT 4613 being duly claimed for the run to New York Penn station. Bash over. A farewell meal in a nearby pub then it was a Long Island EMU to Jamaica (!) for the JFK airtrain to the airport. Simon had anticipated the 11.30pm flight was going to be a quiet one but in the event it was over-booked - so much so that Steve and Richard took the offer of being bumped off and gained a $800 flight voucher ("that's next years flights paid for") along with a guaranteed flight out the next morning, accommodation paid for and a taxi home to Gloucester! N787AL was our Boeing 777 home, don't remember much as I slept most of the way!
