Notes :
(1) William Lucas comments there was a draw forward and set-back
move at Manchester Oxford Road. He also has the distances out and back for the
class 47 recorded as 329.45 miles (out) & 313.54 miles (back).
(2) Alan Baylis comments : shortly before we got to
Shrewsbury the brakes locked on one of the Rats. We stopped, staggered and
crawled our way into Shrewsbury with the sparks flying off the failed locos
wheels. It was both a sad and spectacular sight to watch. The train was
effectively terminated at Shrewsbury and a Sprinter was used to get passengers
back to Caersws.
