(3) John Clifford comments: This was the first of two trips to Quainton Road. The second one operated on the next day (26th August). The Buckinghamshire Railway Centre was celebrating fifty years since its foundation. The name of the tour shown above is the one under which UK Railtours advertised it. However, the literature from London Underground shows the name as 'Quainton Half Century Rail Tour'. On the day we set off on time but immediately behind the 09.57 Marylebone - Aylesbury so there was some slow running in the early stages. At Aylesbury North Loop we arrived early but had to wait for the 12.13 Aylesbury Vale Parkway to come along the single line. The journey to Watford (Met) was completed without problem. On the way back we stopped at Great Missenden, but I don’t know why. On the final leg of the tour we ran early again and were checked after Amersham by the 16.47 Metropolitan Line train from Amersham. We were held at Neasden South Jn to let three trains go ahead, namely 16.29 from Aylesbury via High Wycombe, 17.29 from Birmingham Moor Street and 16.41 from Oxford. Arrival at Marylebone was just over 5 minutes late. Engines operating at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre included G.W.R. 6989 'Wightwick Hall', Metropolitan Railway no.1 and Hunslet no. 1742.
