(4) John Clifford's comments: This tour was originally advertised to be hauled by 61306 'Mayflower'. However, it failed a short time previously and 6233 was substituted. This was a day on which there was a strike on South Western Railway with a much reduced service operating. The empty stock had left Southall depot half an hour late and was likewise late arriving at London Victoria. We set off only 15 minutes late. There was a brief stop at Longhedge Jn, but I did not find out why. At Barnes we had to let the 10.12 Reading to Waterloo cross our path. The only other delay on the outward journey was near Tisbury where we waited for the 13.08 Exeter Central - Salisbury to go into the loop before we proceeded. The servicing at Yeovil Junction took longer than expected, so we left 20 minutes late. We were held at Wilton Jn to let the 16.28 Wentloog - Southampton Maritime go ahead. We expected that the Overton stop would be a quick “splash and dash” but we took longer to fill up the tender. There had not been a booked stop at Woking on the return but this was changed and it was announced that we would stop there. In the event a passenger was taken ill so there was an extended stop for the passenger to get medical assistance. Despite leaving Woking 25 minutes late we got to Waterloo just 10 minutes late.
